WHO: Remdesivir Not Effective in Corona Treatment
The antiviral agent remdesivir has little effect on patients with the coronavirus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
This would appear from an international study—the manufacturer of the drug questions those research results.
Remdesivir is currently also used in the Netherlands. US President Donald Trump was also administered the drug after he became infected with the virus.
However, the WHO reports that the drug has “little to no effect” on corona patients in hospitals. This would be apparent from, among other things, death rates and the period that patients spend in hospital.
Pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences is not satisfied with the research on which WHO is based.
Other studies have shown that the use of remdesivir in the treatment of corona patients does have added value, the company tells Reuters. Then researchers concluded that corona patients recover faster due to the virus inhibitor.
