The stock exchanges in New York opened with small profits on Wednesday. The sentiment is supported by news that the British authorities have given the green light to using the corona vaccine from pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford.

Investors on Wall Street continue to focus on the political negotiations on a new support package for the US economy in Washington.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones index was 0.3 percent higher at 30,432 points. The broad S&P 500 also gained 0.3 percent to 3,739 points, and technology gauge Nasdaq added 0.4 percent to 12,895 points.

The US Senate is still bickering over the $ 900 billion corona support package. On Tuesday, Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked a vote on an increase in support checks for Americans from $ 600 to $ 2,000.

President Donald Trump has demanded that increase and Democrats in Congress support him, but many Republicans in the Senate are obstructive.

It was also announced that the more contagious “British variant” of the coronavirus has now also been found in someone in the US state of Colorado.

This is the first known detection of the mutated virus type in the United States. More than 19 million corona infections have now been diagnosed in the US, with more than 334,000 deaths from the virus.
