Verstappen Third in GP Emilia Romagna’s First Free Practice

Max Verstappen has set the third-fastest time in the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna’s first free practice in Formula 1.

The Red Bull driver was only 0.058 seconds slower at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola than the Finn Valtteri Bottas, who clocked 1.16.564 in the Mercedes. Bottas was 0.041 seconds faster than his teammate, world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Free practice was halted with about 20 minutes to go after Sergio Perez lost control of his Red Bull car with a broken rear tire.

Just behind it, the Frenchman Esteban Ocon also had to put his Alpine aside. The two cars may have hit each other shortly before.

With more than 10 minutes to go, training resumed. Hamilton then improved the best time so far that Spaniard Carlos Sainz had set in the Ferrari. Verstappen was then faster again, but Bottas provided the best time.
