US President Biden Tests Positive for Corona and Goes into Isolation at the White House

US President Joe Biden has been infected with the coronavirus. The 79-year-old has “very mild symptoms.” The White House announced on Thursday.

The Democrat has started taking Paxlovid, Pfizer’s anti-corona pill, and will go into isolation at the White House until he tests negative again, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said.

She added that the president has received his two booster doses and will continue to perform his full range of duties.

The White House has promised to report daily on the health of Biden, the oldest US president ever. He was found to be “robust and fit” in a medical examination in November last year.

The president had another trip to Pennsylvania scheduled for Thursday and another trip to Florida next Monday.

About 130,000 new cases of Covid-19 are currently registered in the US, although experts say that figure is a gross underestimate. The number of hospital admissions is also growing. Omikron’s highly contagious BA.5 sub-variant is dominant in the country, accounting for about 80 percent of cases.
