US Police Seem to be Targeting the Press: Dozens of Reports of Arrests
In recent protests in the United States against police brutality, dozens of journalists appear to have been deliberately attacked by the police.
Even if they explicitly identified themselves as a press, they were still attacked with rubber bullets or pepper spray. Several journalists were also arrested, often without good reason.
“This is not only reprehensible but also in violation of the American constitution,” reporters organizations say.
The arrest of CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez and his team on live television on Friday made the world news.
They would have ignored a police order to leave the place where they were filming, but the video clearly shows that the reporter quietly asks the officers where they can go.
That arrest now seems to be the tip of the iceberg.
