Ukraine: Russian Bombers Attack Mariupol
Russia has used long-range bombers to target the besieged port city of Mariupol for the first time since the attack on Ukraine, the defence ministry in Kyiv said.
According to a spokesman, fierce street fighting is ongoing in the city that has still not been completely occupied by the Russian army.
It claimed Thursday that it fully controlled the port of Mariupol. According to Ukraine, fighting will continue on Friday in the port area, just like at a steel factory, a complex called a “fortress” where the Ukrainian Azov battalion is entrenched.
Russia wants to capture the city to create a land link between the separatist areas in the Donbas region and the annexed Crimean peninsula. According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Russian troops are also trying to control the cities of Rubizhne and Popasna in the Luhansk region.
