Twitter to Restrict, But not Outright Ban, Allowed Issue Ads

Governmental ads are no more permitted on Twitter from Friday, 22 Nov. This can be, for instance, paid out advertising and marketing where individuals are known as upon to help a campaign or vote for a particular politician.

 

CEO Jack Dorsey had already indicated last month which he wished to bar political ads. However it was not yet very clear during those times what forms of marketing the new principle would affect.

Now Twitter has released additional information. All advertising and marketing that describes ‘a candidate, political party, elected or designated authorities recognized, election and referendum voting measure, guidelines and regulations, directive or judicial outcome’ will no longer be approved.

There can also be limitations for ads which are specifically targeted at specific geographical places.
