Tesla Boss Elon Musk Overtakes Jeff Bezos As the Richest Person
Elon Musk, CEO of car maker Tesla and space company SpaceX, has become the richest man on earth.
In doing so, he dethrones Jeff Bezos, founder and boss of online store group Amazon, according to the billionaire index of the Bloomberg news agency.
Musk’s net worth rose at breakneck speed last year. The South African-born man mainly owes this to the increased share price of Tesla. Musk’s net worth currently stands at $ 188.5 billion, making him $ 1.5 billion richer than Bezos, Bloomberg said.
Musk, 49, owns about a fifth of all Tesla stock, which was worth eight times as much at the end of 2020 than at the beginning of the year. On Thursday, Tesla recorded more than 5 percent higher on Wall Street.
The cost of Tesla pieces is mainly because both professional and private investors have high expectations for the group’s electric cars’ future. At the moment, the US company produces only a fraction of what “traditional” car manufacturers like General Motors or Ford make
Not only the stocks that Musk owns are the basis of his enormous wealth. He was also rewarded in 2012 and 2018 with options to purchase pieces from the electric automaker at a favourable price. That right now earns him a paper profit of $ 42 billion.
Via Twitter, the social medium on which Musk often makes striking statements, the entrepreneur briefly responded to the news: “Very strange. Well, time to get back to work.”
