Roughly 1 in 10 Londoners Had Corona on Sunday
About one in ten Londoners was infected with the coronavirus on Sunday, and the British statistics agency ONS reports based on new estimates.
The new figures show that the omicron variant of the coronavirus is on the rise. More than 8.5 million people live in London.
On Thursday, Great Britain registered a record number of 119,789 new infections, more than 13,000 more than a day earlier. According to the ONS report, 1 in 35 Britons had been infected between December 13 and 19, well above the estimate of 1 in 45 in the week to December 16, released on Thursday.
Many companies in Britain are faced with staff shortages as sick employees have to go into home isolation. Hospitals warn of the major consequences of the new wave of contamination.
Due to the rapid advance of the omicron variant, more than 675,000 new cases were identified in the past week. Despite this, the British government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday shortened the quarantine period from ten to seven days.
