Obama After George Floyd’s Death: Racism Cannot be Normal

Former US President Barack Obama says he shares the horror that millions of Americans felt about the death of a black detainee in Minnesota.

He stressed in a statement that racism cannot and should not be normal in 2020.

Floyd, 46, died after an agent knelt on his neck for minutes while he was handcuffed to the floor. That led to night-long riots and international criticism.

Obama refers in an open letter to Floyd’s death, but also to other incidents from the recent past.

A black jogger shot by white men in Georgia and a black birdwatcher who got it on a white woman in a park in New York City.
