More Than 2 Million People Over 50 in Italy Must be Vaccinated
Italy has nearly 2.2 million over-50s who have not yet been vaccinated against Covid-19 but are required to do so under the new rules.
Earlier this week, the government introduced compulsory vaccinations for this age group.
The over-50s are a large group among the unvaccinated in Italy, which has about 60 million inhabitants. According to figures published by the Italian news agency ANSA, some 5.3 million people aged 12 and over have not yet been vaccinated.
In Italy, there is already a vaccination obligation for healthcare and education staff. The broader duty is to limit the spread of the coronavirus and relieve care. The number of infections has exploded in the past month, and the pressure on hospitals is increasing.
