Macron Says Goodbye to Merkel with Video

French President Emmanuel Macron bids farewell to German Chancellor Angela Merkel with a video. She is leaving after sixteen years as head of government of Germany.

The French leader thanked Merkel for her commitment to “push Europe forward”.

Macron posted on Twitter a message for “Angela” in French and German. He also shared a video of more than two minutes showing prominent European leaders laughing and pulling together at international summits. Images are also shown of Merkel’s farewell visit to France.

Christian Democrat Merkel had already indicated before the parliamentary elections in her country that she no longer wanted to return as chancellor.

On Wednesday, the German parliament elected Social Democrat Olaf Scholz as her successor. Merkel will formally hand over her duties later on Wednesday.
