France Wants Action Against Israel in Annexation of the West Bank
France wants to take action if Israel annexes parts of the West Bank. The country is working on a plan for this with other European countries, says Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian.
He spoke in the French parliament on Wednesday. According to Le Drian, partial annexation by Israel would be a gross violation of international law.
“We have held several video conferences with European colleagues in recent days,” said Le Drian.
This included a decision to “take joint preventive action and retaliate” should Israel proceed to annexation.
The annexation of parts of the West Bank is proposed in the U.S. Middle East Peace Plan presented by President Trump early this year.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously said the new government would discuss in July whether it will extend its sovereignty.
