Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Arrested

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested on Tuesday as he appeared before a court in Islamabad in one of several corruption cases against him. This has been communicated by the Pakistani authorities and Khan’s party PTI.

Clashes broke out before the courthouse between Khan’s supporters and the police. An earlier attempt to arrest Khan at his home in Lahore in March also sparked heavy clashes between police and his supporters.

In April 2022, Khan was ousted by a vote of no confidence after almost four years as prime minister. Since then, the charges against him have piled up.

Khan has repeatedly called for new elections and mass protests in recent months.
