FBI Finds Link Between Al-Qaeda and Naval Base Gunner
The U.S. Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FBI) has found a link between terror organization al-Qaeda and the Saudi lieutenant who shot dead three U.S. military personnel at a naval base in Pensacola in December.
The 21-year-old gunner was a member of the Saudi Air Force and was in the U.S. for training.
The training program was designed to keep the military ties between the US and allies warm. The shooter was killed in his attack.
Little was known about the lieutenant’s motive until now, as his phone could not be unlocked.
Al-Qaeda already claimed in February that it had ordered the shooting in Florida, but there was no further evidence.
The FBI has now found evidence on the phone for that connection.
