Amazon Buys 11 Aircraft for Fleet Expansion
The American web store Amazon has bought eleven second-hand aircraft to expand its fleet of cargo aircraft. These are aircraft of the Boeing 767-300 type.
Amazon buys seven planes from Delta Air Lines and four from WestJet Airlines. They should become part of the company’s fleet over this year and next, with which they will all be in use by 2022.
It is the first time Amazon actually bought its own planes, because before they were always leased.
In June, the group announced that it would lease twelve Boeings, which increased the fleet to more than eighty aircraft.
By expanding the air cargo fleet, Amazon wants to better and faster process the increasing demand for online orders and be less dependent on large parcel deliverers such as UPS.
