Activities at Houston Chinese Consulate Exceeded Border

The United States wanted to send a message to China to curtail its espionage activities by closing a consulate.

“There comes a time when you have to say: enough is enough,” said a senior employee of the United States Department of State.

The US ordered Tuesday to close the diplomatic post in Houston within a few days. Trucks then drove back and forth to remove belongings and equipment.

Documents are also said to have been set on fire. China reacted angrily and ordered the US consulate in Chengdu to be closed.

The US authorities explained more about the background of the measure on Friday.

According to an official, the US knows that diplomatic missions are involved in the stealing of information and other harmful activities, but the Houston consulate is said to have made it very motley and crossed a line.
